INSPEC has been involved with the testing and certification of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Ophthalmic Products for many years, and can now claim to be the world's leading, independent organisation in this field.

• Our Testing Services department was established in 1981 and now operates from laboratories located in the north of England

The facilities provide for independent testing of PPE to International, European, American and Australian standards, and, very often, to manufacturers' own specifications.

We design, manufacture and supply laboratory test equipment, as specified in these standards, together with installation, commissioning and training in its use.

Our advisory service includes the provision of technical guidance to manufacturers regarding the PPE Directive, product standards, testing and the preparation of technical files for CE marking, and of quality management systems and associated documentation.

• Our Certification Services department was established in 1991 in the south of England. Its offices have recently relocated to the north, alongside the laboratories, in our new headquarters.

Initially accredited as a certification body for ISO9000 Quality Management Systems certification, we then also became one of the first Notified Bodies under the European PPE Directive, 89/686/EEC. Operating under Articles 10, 11A and 11B, we can provide a complete service for the CE marking of all types of PPE. Certification under the Marine Equipment Directive is also offered.

Both departments are accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for the work that we perform.

Through a contract established with the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) in the USA, we also offer testing and certification programmes for PPE destined for this market too.

Considering the geographic scope of our activities - Europe, America and Australasia - and the fact that we cover all types of PPE, from head to toe, it is easy to see why so many manufacturers consider INSPEC as the 'one-stop-shop' for all of their testing and certification needs.
